This review is about: New York City Graffiti (Hardcover)
As a student of train graffiti worldwide, New York City Graffiti, The Destiny Children is a must have for anyone who is interested in the topic. This book takes you on a wild ride with the TDC crew as they went all city in the later 1980s. As more and more books begin to surface on specific crews and writers from this era, it is very important that this crew gets included. They did major damage on MTA from 1986-1989 and their legacy of doing strictly burners cannot be overlooked. It is important that crews such as this tell their story, in their own words. I gave it four stars because the printing left a little to be desired. Some, not all, of the photos dont do justice to the artwork. With that said, this book is still a very important part the history of NY Subway graffiti. Get it now before it turns up on ebay for $800.00 when its not available anymore.

✯ Frank Gold - DWG Warrior Review ✯
Location Germany - Quality Graff Book! - The Destiny Children
Here´s is a great Graff Book I recently discovered, Diseone mentioned it before in the DURO Book thread but since I'm quite overwhelmed with this book I have to bring it to your attention. For me until now the TDC crew was somewhat of a missing link in New York writing history. I've seen pieces from two of their founding members DC3 and DOME here and there in various publications and I always liked their style but never got to see more of their work or their history. Now it seems that they took it in their own hands to change that. And they did it pretty good! This book is a real heavy monster. 344 pages strong with a lot of fold out pages with tons of photo footage I've never seen before as well as all the classics. And the good thing is that all these photos have an accurate size. Nothing upsets me more that a Graff Book where the pictures are too small and stuff. It's the right mixture of train and wall photos (for the most part), action flicks and even the entrance of a layup is shown (I like that). The text parts are nice. They (mostly DC3, Dome and SHO) display a bit of their personal history and of course Graff moments and stories as a collective. The best thing though is the styles! As I mentioned before I always liked their style and I always wondered why we don't get to see more of them. Crazy DOME and DC3 stuff in there as well as great stuff from SHO (which I must admit I hadn't on my list so far) and other members of the crew. So, if you’re familiar with some of their work or if you like that Classic 80´s to early 90´s New York Style then this is it!
This book is pretty pricey but what you get for it is a lot! I recommend it.

If you liked the book "Subway Art" and "Spray Can Art", this is a nice edition to your collection. The book is packed with graffiti from start to finish. The Destiny Children ripped joints from the 1980's into the 1990's and did it with there own style which makes the book very refreshing. One of the best books I've bought so far about New York City graffiti. They kept the culture alive when a lot of graffiti writers stopped writing and started doing canvases. If you are just getting into graffiti you definitely need a copy of this and the other books I mentioned in my other reviews.

✯ N. ZAK- TDC Book Review ✯
5.0 out of 5 stars An absolutely amazing book!! Dec 8, 2011
I must admit that I knew very little about The Destiny Children crew before reading this book. Its hard to find much about them on the internet, e.g. for some very strange reason they are not listed on the [...] site.
I had seen a few of their train productions in Phase 2's & Dave Schmidlapp's excellent IGTimes magazine in the late 80's. They looked great but often they were in black and white due to the underground production nature of the IGT. As a result it was hard to imagine how they would look in full colour.
Therefore, I was not prepared for the absolute visual treat that was in store for me when going through the pages of this book. It is packed with many (and I mean many!) absolute masterpiece burners. What's even more impressive is that these masterpieces were carried out a time when New York Transit Authority's full offensive was underway to stop artists from getting up on the trains.
The text is very informative and the quality of the printing is also top notch. Many of the train productions are spread over multiple pages so that you can fold them out and get a much greater insight into the blood, sweat and years that must have gone into the TDC's members honing their skills.
What is unusual about this book, compared to other similar ones, is the amount of pictures that were taken during the process of executing the pieces on the train. These are interspersed throughout, making it feel much more intimate.
I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed!
P.S. Please can someone now do a similar book on Dero TC5!

NYC Graffiti, The Destiny Children is a retrospective of TDC crew from 1985 to 2000. Very few collections of 1980s graffiti have been published so far, so this adds very important material for NYC writers' historical time line. The book is an amazing collection of important work from NYC, featuring 334 pages, 500 color photos, 11 of them as 4-page gatefold pull-out spreads. All in a fat, hardbound, coffee-table display format.

Now this book is official!!
On the TDC crew, a crew that came on the 2 & 5 line’s and other’s and just destroyed it with whole car’s back in 1986-88 they really put the smack down on the 2’s & 5’s. I remember at the time I had the line with throw-up's cause I was at war with Cap mpc Pjay & Seen so I couldn't do whole car’s cause they would've gotten destroyed by my enemies at the time beside’s the C.O.D crew who was killing the 2 & 5 line’s with whole car’s. Also the TDC crew did there thing on a major level in this book you will see what’s the deal is. And how they did it and how they never got caught!!!!! A must get for all true subway graffiti head’s and thank’s to SHO TDC for giving me love and respect in the book.

New York City Graffiti (The Destiny Children) - DMOTE Review
WOW! this book is amazing, I first saw cars by TDC, (SHO, DC 3, ZOO, DOME etc..) in Phase 2′s International GETHIP Times around 89, there were only a few cars and I remember them being very different to what i had previously seen from New York at that time, in never really heard about the crew again, in all my talks with New York writers no one ever mentioned these dudes. Its a shock to see a 350 page book packed full off whole cars, end to ends, and fully finished cars, and for the most part on the 2′s and 5′s. Ok this book is definitely some sort of missing piece of the historic puzzle of New York City Graffiti…WOW!!!!

The Destiny Children – Lectrics Book review
BOOK, DAILY NEWS | IZZYWOBSTER | FEBRUARY 9, 2012
Last month Bez85 told me about a dope NYC old school book called The Destiny Children. He told me that it was definitely worth every euro I would spend. It seems that he was God damn right! The TDC crew brings out a 344 page  book  with more than 500 pictures dating back from 1985 to 2000. A story of 3 writers (DOME, DC3, SHO)  that met during the NYC graffiti golden years and create their own crew: The Destiny Children. The book layout is great and both quality and quantity of the pictures are really impressive. All the more as most of the pictures were new to me. If you’re fed up watching  Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant’s  pictures for the 1000th time, you should definitely get  this book. About the TDC story: This true story and retrospective documents the life and times of members of The Destiny Children (TDC) graffiti crew from 1985 to 2000. From Long Island, New York, The Destiny Children/Unlimited Styled Artists commemorate the 25-year history of the crew and their impact on the New York City subway graffiti era. This large collector’s book is loaded with 500 color images of original art ranging from burners on hand ball courts to pieces on tractor trailers to works throughout the New York City subway system. Works by many established NYC graffiti artists are featured, including founding members DC3 and SHO. Other original members featured are SHOROZ, BEAVER, LAE, LAC2, ROE, DOOJ, SHIM, and ONE2. Works by affiliated writers, ZEUS TDC, SPHERE, CEOS, ROZ One, SHARE 37, POKE IBM, ROE1, DOOJ, KENT, CEOS, VULCAN, RUSH, DEON, FENT, SNATCH, GOLDIE, RECK, SKETCH, KARL TCM, DEON, BOM 5 MW, SACE RIP, MIRAGE RIP and others are documented. Alongside the visual accounts of these artistic exploits are dozens of true stories and recollections that uncover the reality of painting in yards, lay ups, racking spray paint, fights, graffiti beefs, and police raids. See what made TDC take extraordinary risks so their street art could be seen by the public in their never-ending quest for fame. An ideal history for artists, art historians, street art enthusiasts, anthropologists, and urban dwellers. Get this all inclusive production.

Scottish Graf
Scottish Graffiti Book review – New York City Graffiti

Published by Schiffer books Received this book just before Christmas from the good folks at Bushwood Books but due to the festivities its taken a while to get round to reviewing this. So, given that you are most likely a writer and reading this review, what do you know about The Destiny Children? An internet search wont through up much other than info about this book. So what do you need to know. Well its all in this book and what a book. 344 pages of high quality old school graffiti funk including 550 + photos. Need to know more? TDC hit the NY subway system and they hit it hard. This book celebrates 25 years of The Destiny Children. The book transports you back to when graffiti was beginning to explode across the globe and was under serious attack from the MTA. The book features the crews work on trains and their transition to walls and tractor trailers. To give you a feel of what this book looks like it has a feel of what maybe Subway Art would have been had it focussed on one crew. Like Subway Art the book has fold out pages to show full car pieces but there are far more included in here and it gives you a chance to fully appreciate the individual styles of the crew members. The styles are classic and timeless and burn so much stuff that is out there now. Given that the TDC were active during the time when NY where cracking down on graffiti on the subway system, the fact that they were able to produce so much quality work is really impressive. They Never got Caught Either!! As the book focuses on one crew it means it can give an in-depth account of what made the crew and each member tick. There are hundreds upon hundreds of quality flicks in this book including many action shots of the crew in the train yards putting their work up. But what really makes this book for me is the various tales told about train painting missions including Goldie’s trip to NY, numerous fight and beef tales and general chat about what the graff scene was like back then. There is also some contributions from other writers about how the TDC inspired/impacted on them. Personally, this book is a favorite amongst the piles of graff books out there. The styles are classic, the colors are of a certain time reminding me of why I got into graff in the first place. The book is available in the UK from Bushwood Books and is priced at £39.95, although it can be picked up for £29.37 on Amazon. Pricey for a book? Maybe. Worth it? For a book dripping with style then yeah, its worth every penny. Highly recommended!!!!!

ShoRoz, Dome, Sketch, Goldie TAT, Vulcan, Share 37, Zoo, Mirage, Sketch, DC3, Poke, Roz, and many others are featured in this book including myself. 344 + pages of high gloss photos, looks more like a college text book, pure quality body of work. New York City Graffiti: The Destiny Children. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in graffiti, particularly New York graffiti from the mid to late '80s. It has heaps of Subway Art style fold-outs and the photo's of the boys painting various yards and lay-ups are fantastic. I forgot to point out that the reviews and blogs all talk about 25 years of TDC, but there's only a few pieces after 1990, so for all you old New York train fans I can assure you that this book is 95% NYCTA trains circa 1985-1989 and 5% illegal tractor trailers and illegal walls. Oh, and as with many books on old school graffiti these days, the color in the old faded photographs has been amped up so you can appreciate what the burners looked like fresh out the yard. Most of the photos are freshly painted next day photo's with the windows still intact. These guys were cracking out so many colors and pulling off crazy whole cars and E2E's on the regular. Grab the book and check it out for yourself, I'll think you will agree. Peace!!

✯ NYC Graffiti / The Destiny Children✯
This book is one of the best graff books I've ever seen in terms of the volume of work shown on NYC trains from one single point of view. Madd respect to that team for how they held it down strong!!!
Gallery
“New York City Graffiti – The Destiny Children” gives an in-depth view of the 25 year career of DC3, SHO, SHARE 37, ROZ, KARL, MIRAGE, SKETCH, LAE, BOM5, POKE, EPIC and others.  It manages to submerge you into the graffiti culture of the mid-80s, when the scene was exploding worldwide.  By focusing on one crew, the book gives a highly personal, detailed account of working on the trains.  “NYC Graffiti” is beautifully illustrated with brightly colored fold out pages that show entire subway car pieces.  This book is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the history of New York City Graffiti.”

SOME aka DOUBLE A.B.
Media ShowerRoc Marciano

Let me introduce myself as Some1 AAB better known today by my rap moniker, Double A.B. I first met SHO sometime around ‘94-’95 hanging out in my boy Ness’s building on the Upper West Side. SHO had done this dope “GM” piece on the roof where we all used to chill and burn and our whole crew was wondering who did it and if Ness had a skilled graf writer somehow living in the building right under his nose. I remember seeing SHO in the elevator going up and down to my man’s crib and somehow getting the vibe that this may be the dude we were wondering about. Eventually the two connected and soon we were all friends. At the time I was maybe 15 years old and an up and coming graf writer myself. I was more of a bomber spending my nights (that lasted well into mornings) trooping up and down the streets leaving behind a trail of “Some1” tags and throwies. My trademark though was my ability for drawing characters, which I didn’t get much chance to use in the streets but had plenty of opportunity to leave a whole village worth of marker drawn characters on the staircase walls of Ness/SHO’s building. When SHO and I finally met there was this moment of realization where I was like “oh, You’re the one who did that piece on the roof !” and he was like, “oh, You’re the one who did those characters in the staircase!”, and just like that we had a friendship born out of mutual respect. Our friendship quickly turned into a bombing partnership and SHO and I began hitting the streets, Amtrak and subway tunnels together. I always admired his no nonsense approach to bombing -- get in, get out. Catch wreck and flee the scene before the boys arrived. I had been in situations with some of my other graf partners that led to multiple arrests, but somehow I always knew SHO was going to be one step ahead of the boys in blue. One winter evening, around ‘96, in the aftermath of a particularly heavy snowstorm, I got a call from SHO telling me he had just spotted some lay ups while riding the 1 train. In extreme weather when the open-air train yards at either end of a train line couldn’t accommodate the parked trains the MTA would “lay up” trains in the tunnels between stations. Lay ups are particularly important to graf writers because in the post “clean train” era of NYC graffiti (where the MTA will refuse to pull a train out of the yard if it has graf on it) because this is the only chance to have your art actually run on a moving train (until it is removed at the end of the line). That particular night SHO spotted one between 103rd street and 110th street -- which meant we had a few hours to hit it before it was pulled out in the morning. We promptly packed our bags with paint and hit the 103rd street subway station, jumping into the tunnel at the north end. As we maneuvered through the tunnel, keeping clear of the third rail and trains whizzing by us it became apparent that the train had been moved closer to the 110th street station than it had been when SHO had spotted it an hour or two earlier. Which meant a few more blocks of train tunnel travel for us, but also just the fact it had been moved made us uneasy. When we finally approached the train we both heard a faint but distinct voice say “awww shit!”. SHO and I gave each other one glance and bolted all the way back the way we came. To this day we don’t know if the voice belonged to a cop, another writer or just some vagrant in the tunnel but we didn’t stay to find out. That’s how it was bombing with SHO-- when you saw danger: dip away and live to paint another day. It is not just my personal experience with SHO that makes me super proud of his new book, New York City Graffiti: The Destiny Children. Not just because I have been a member of The Destiny Children since SHO threw me down in the mid-90”s. Not just because he was cool enough to include a picture of me and one of my sloppier fill-ins (which has another story behind it I have promised to tell in a deluxe edition if SHO ever reprints the book). Just the fact that I am a New Yorker that grew up in the era of subway graffiti makes me burst with pride to see a book of this quality and magnitude. Not only is the book a whopping 350 pages, it is ALL pictures of SHO and associated TDC family artwork. There are not that many graf books this size in existence and definitely none that I can think of focusing on one crew. The lifetime of artwork displayed in the book is phenomenal on its own. The fact that it has been meticulously collected and displayed in such a slick and beautiful fashion makes this book its own work of art, and something classic that will be admired for ages to come. While SHO continues to bring his visual art to the masses I shifted my artistic direction to music long ago. When SHO and I (along with a collective of other writers) used to throw our Hip Hop event, “Tha Spot” (an outlet for rappers, breakers and visual artists) I used to get on stage and spit verses with the same passion I used to direct into a spray can. At first I went by my graffiti name-- “Some” or “Some1”. After being called to the stage under that name (“uhh...will SOMEONE please come to the stage?”) it became apparent that I needed a new rap name. I adopted the other name i was used to scrawling on walls across New York--”AAB” the name of my own high school click (originally standing for All About Bombing) and turned it into “Double A.B.” Under this name I have released a small collection of classic rap music starting with my debut album “New York Minute” in 2002, which SHO actually helped design the cover art for. 2005’s “Blazed & Amused” hosted by Scram Jones and 2008’s “The Diesel” both met with critical acclaim and 2012 will see the release of “Media Shower” on Man Bites Dog Records, a highly conceptual album which is sure to enrapture all who listen. Grab a copy and let me know what you think. Peace out.
